Good health care provision is the most important factor to us all, from cradle to grave, and one which I feel passionately about. Having lived in the Dunstable area for over twenty-five years I have both used the services and watched the Luton & Dunstable develop into a modern high quality general hospital.

As a teacher I have developed organisational and analytical skills and deal with both adults and children on a daily basis. I feel privileged to have been elected as governor of the Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

Andy Dayton (Deputy Chair for Council of Governors)

Domiciled in the area for 30 years I appreciated the care provided at the L&D during my operation for prostate problems and fully support the Foundation Trust concept. I have Managing Board experience in 2 UK Trade Associations, excellent debating skills and feel able to represent my constituencies’ interests.

For several years I have cared for my 96 year old disabled mother and recognise the needs of the elderly in Hospital and Community. I am determined the excellent level of care we both received will be maintained. Adequate and effective A&E Services are my other priority and the elderly.

Maureen Dewar

As a resident of Dunstable for over 40 years and until my recent retirement an L&D employee for 26 years, I have continued interest in the Trust and its good practice.

Due to my previous experience in NHS provision and care, I have some understanding of patients’ needs. As an elected governor I hope to have the opportunity to fairly represent constituency views.

With the expertise of hospital staff, recognizing concerns expressed by patients, visitors and the local community, I aim to contribute towards the L&D providing the best possible healthcare service for all who use our local hospital.

Ray Gunning

As an ex-patient and local resident I believe we get the services we want and deserve.  The public must participate in those services as required.  I have particular interest in Stroke rehabilitation, disability and patient safety issues.

I have been an active member of the Trust's patient representative group and PPI Forum since 2002 and currently serve on five hospital committees.  I also now serve on the Bedfordshire Link board.

Rowena Harrison

Term of office: September 2008 to September 2011 (Second term of office)

I have lived in this constituency for 15 years and my family and I have had positive experiences of hospital services. The hospital has undergone positive developments over this time.

I believe everyone is entitled to high quality health care services throughout life. As a Foundation Trust we now have the opportunity for our views on further developments to be represented. I value the opportunity I have to represent you and will use my skills, some of which I have developed through my work as a teacher, to find out your views and promote them through the Council of Governors.

Gill Hiscox

Term of office: September 2007 to September 2010

I care about the NHS and I care about my local hospital.

I have been employed in the Health Service in Bedfordshire for 34 years and been involved in three major NHS organisations. I now work in general practice as a Practice manager.

I understand the complexities of the NHS and have an understanding of the people who work within it and have knowledge of the trusts history.

I have a dual relationship with the Trust as a patient and a working relationship.

Roger Turner

Term of office: September 2008 to September 2011 (Second term of office)

I have lived and worked in the area for over 30 years, beginning as a research scientist at Rothamsted Experimental Station in Harpenden. I am currently Chief Executive of UNITE, the National Federation of Royal Mail and BT Pensioners with over 104,000 members nationwide and Headquarters in Dunstable. I am currently a school governor and have served as a District and Town Councillor.

The L&D is a vital community resource and it is important for local people to have an influence on the level and quality of services provided. I will do this in my role as Governor with particular emphasis on services to older people using my experience of running an organisation composed of pensioners. It is important for as many people as possible to sign up as members of the Foundation Trust so that your voice can be heard.
